“ANALYSIS CHARACTER AND POINT OF VIEW”

I.                   INTRODUCTION

A. SINOPSYS

There are many character but just three character revolve or always present in each part of story , those are reilly (Detective), lieutenant Brennan, and Quin. Especially Quin,  is chief of Police department in county of New York. The setting of novel is New York. The story of  novel tell about murder of case. Reilly has job to investigation that case, but to prove who the suspect in this case, Reilly faces many problem. In the final investigation Reilly found the suspect is his bos(Quin and liuetnant Brennan). The fact that Brenan is accomplice of Quin. When Quin young, he made a gang. One day Quin’s  gang robber and kill a old women before he become police.  Now he is chief police of department in New York,  and he tried to star for election mayor New York. So to keep his reputation he asked Brennan to kill the member of gang Quin’s one by one.

B.WORKING QUESTION

And the topic I will discuss bring to us to question like:

1.Who is in this novel protagonist and antagonist? And how to identity personality of the character?

2.are the character simple or complex?

3.what is the story’s point of view? How we can indetify the point of view in the story?

C.THESIS STATEMENT

In this paper I will discuss about  character and point of view novel Q and A, because the two element of intrinsik( point of view and character) most dominantly in this novel.

II.                DISCUSSION

 The title novel analysis is Q and A. When  we read the first pages , the reader is  given the murder incident by author,all of the story consist action and drama inverstigation. From this novel we can get any information about  activity police. How to get information from witness, how to get evidence are one of  activity police we found in this novel. This novel match for someone who loves genre action. There are many character in this novel but just three character always present or appears in story ,  those are Reilly, Brennan and Quin. The three character enggage in whole the the story. The author  uses the third person point of view. That is make this story can not  guess what the ending in the story and what the next happen . This story is placed the Reilly as protoganist character.  The Protagonist  of a story or novel is often called the  the main character . but some people  have assumption that  the meaning of protagonist is just  “good person”. Its not the meaning of the protagonist. And the antagonist is the character who represents a challenge or an obstacle to the protagonist in a story the antagonist is not always person but  antagonist can society in the story. The novel Q and A the antagonist character are lieutnant Brennan and Chief Quin. The reader know it ( who the antagonist character) through conversation , action etc.

And to know about the peronality the character in stories through the things the character says, feelings, reactions,  actions and thoughts. Its not difficult to determine what is personality of character in a story. For example, the personality of character Reilly is a good peerson, discipline, responsibility, and have enthusiasm or spirit in investigation a case. Reilly has spirit and never give up about something, he is braveness person. His braveness appears when he decided to give the result investigation to provost. He knows what the consquences if he (Reilly) reports his investigation to provost.

 The story in this novel is easy to understand because using simple word of English. And for reader is easy to determine where is the character simple or complex or are the character simple or complex. The simple (flat) characther is less the representation of human personality than the embodiment of a single attitude or obsession in character. Called the flat character because the reader just see only one sides of him(character). It means that the flat of character just one personality. For example, Reilly is type flat character, starting in first story until the end, his character constant, there is no change personality(always good man). Complex or round character is complex character or has many complex traits,and those traits develop and change in a story. A complex or round character will seem more real than a flat character because the reader see all sides of him. The complex is obviously more lifelike than simple(flat), because in life people are not simple embodiments of a single attitudes. Complex character in this novel (Q and A) is chief Quin. The reader know  through there is complex personality inside character, Quin is bad person when  a young but to be police officer his character has changed being a good person and succed chief police in county New York make his character change again and make he is pusher or ambitious position. And he tried to star for election mayor of  New York. That is make his character change or dynamic because his character respond to events and experience a change in attitude or outlook.

Now we move on to analysis what is the story’s point of view and how to identify the point of view in a story. Point of view comes in three varieties. That is, first person, second person and the last is third person. First person point of view is in use when character narrate the story with use word like I/Me/My/Mine in his or her speech. The advantage of this point of view is that the reader get to hear the thought of the narrator and see the world in the story through his or her eyes or angle point of view. Second person point of view, in which the author uses word like you or your and when author uses second person, the author seldom speak directly to the reader. And most times, second person point of view draws the reader into the story, making the reader a participant in the action. The last third person point of view is that of an outsider looking the action. The third person point of view divided two kinds. That is Omnicient narration and limited narration. The omnicient naration is know everything about story. The omnicient can enter the mind of character and tell the reader directly what the character is thingking. Limited narration is simply, a narrator who doesn’t know everything. Based on what I explained about the the point of view, the reader can simply identify what the point of view in a story. In novel Q and A, the reader know the point of view is third person because the author use style language is third person like he,she. And the author is type limited narration because the narration doesn’t know what the next will be happen and what the ending in story. It make story become unpredictable and mysterious.

III.             Conclussion

Based on my analysis novel Q and A , we found the protagonist character is Reilly and the antagonist character is chief Quin. And from my analysis we can know how to identify the personaluty character in a story through action, feelings, says and thoughts. Determine what is piont of view in  a story is simple and easy. We know from the sytle of language using like first person or third person. Word like I, Me indicated the point of view is first person and word He, She indicated is third person.
