The journal critical review based on first summarize journal “website for the language teacher’ BLOGGING”
INTRODUCTION
The
title of journal is ‘website for the
language teacher’ BLOGGING. This journal is ELT journal
volume 59/4 October 2005. Published by oxford university press, and release on October 2005. The name of author journal and her profile are Diana Eastment, she is author of the internet and ELT (Summertown publishing) and co-author(with Scott Windeatt and David Hardisty) of the internet(oxford university press). She travels widely as a CALL consultant.

Through
this paper, I will try to review this article. In this article contains some
subject such as what is blog, how the creating a blog, who using the blogs,
blogs in EFL, how finding blogs with Google and between google maps google
blog. And then, author just little bit to explain about how blogs can be
given effect to learning process that is the weakness in this journal . With another
reference I have got it, I will try to evaluate the article in each point.
DISCUSSION
I find there are some point in journal Diana Eastment such as; what is
blog, how creating the blog, who using blogs, blogs in EFL, finding blogs with Google.
From style of writing we can see the authors
(Diana Eastment) have target in writing this journal, and
the target she means are students and practitioners of education. But what she want is not relevant, because her journal
just little a bit to discuss about education. The author is not emphasis or not
concern about her target. What author discuss in her journal just writing
without focus on specific topic. When I search the journal with the topic same,
I find some journals like as Diana Eastment has written, but I see there is big
distinction between what Dean Eastment written and journal reference I find in
internet. The journal like “Blogging To
Learn” written by Anne Barlett-Bragg. Anne Barlett-Bragg has good explanation and good structural in her journal. In her journal
there is abstract but in Diana Eastment journal’s is not appearance.
And in a journal should be data to show, but
the journal Diana Eastment, we do not find it. For example in the discussion of
who using the blogs, the author only attach a statement without support of
data, it shall in a journal to be supported by the results of the data to
indicate a journal is scientific. In discussion in this paper is so
short, the journal
has target audience
from students and practitioners of education should be more detailed and deeper in
each explanation.
Now, I will try to compare other journals with
the same topic, for instance in the journal "Blog
On" building communication and collaboration among staff and students.
In journal on “Blog On” I get detailed explanation
about blogs as supports of the learning process where I don’t find in journal
Diana Eastment.
In journal “Blog On” explained Blogging as a classroom application allows for
enhanced comprehension and communication among students. Creating a collaborative
learning community brings a whole new life to blogging. The author “blog on”
tried to make blogging as to support leaning process. And the ways to make blog
to support learning is student expected to comment on individual posting and
give to student make some posting on blog. Student can posting anything on
blog, they can make diary, the experience of holiday, or make story. It
activities can improve student skills such as reading and writing.
In journal
“blog on” Here is an example of a model that can be applied in a learning
method using the blog:
The first models is Individual Blogs, This model is users
of blog set up their blogs as a place to journal, respond to other or post
resources. And student or users can use blog as online diary. The online diary
gives writers to reflection their activity, feeling or experience.. The second models
is Classroom Blogs. The classroom model of blogging,
student will discussion about contain of blog and respond it. In here student
not only use pencils and paper to writing but they can write online in blog. And
the last model is Collaborative Blogs,
A collaborative blog is one in which students from one class work with students
from another class, either within the same building or from another school.
Elementary students can be paired with middle or high school students, where
the older children can act as mentors or coaches for the younger children. They
using blog to learn each other ,ask question and draw conclussion
And in journal’s Diana Eastment should be develop what the
fuction blog for teacher but we did not find it, in other journal like journal Shih-Hsien Yang,she writes “Using Blogs to Enhance Critical Reflection and
Community of Practice” she tries
to explain using of blogs as a reflective platform in the training processes of
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) student teachers, who were learning to
teach English for future employment in Taiwan. She made use of blogs as a
platform to critically reflect on their learning processes as well as to
measure the impact of blogs on their own professional growth.
What the Diana eastment write is
very interesting, but the contain of her journal is too general, the reader
difficult to find what the point of author try to explain it, if this journal
about how blog can improve or support and enhance the development of reading
and writing of learner/ student, the author (Diana eastment) must focus in that
theme.
Not all
of material in journal Diana eastment is not good, there is effect positive in
I can get it in journal. Through this journal I know how to create blog. The
step of creating blog is easy when author explained in using simple language.
The author give instruction how to create blog start from go to Google,
click on More (above the box where
you type your search), then select Blogger
until click ‘publish’.
The second positive I get it is through this
journal how to know the using blog. The author said Blogs can use to get
students reflecting on their learning, for creative writing task or just to
turn them on the process of writing. And through this journal I know to find
blog EFL is difficult. These are positive point I get it from the journal’s
Diana eastment.
CONCLUSION
Based on review we made , we can get some conclussion, in the
journal’s diana eastment the target of
journal she did not
reach it, the main topic in her jounal we can not find,she
did not focus on one topic so her journal discuss a lot of thing,its make her
jounal is not good to read as reference in ELT. As journal ELT,the topic in her journals too general. And the authors ignore other
journal as reference, its maybe can help her in to support the journals.
